The Gallery Singers present – Fauré’s Requiem
Fauré’s Requiem is one of those well known works that in the composers own words, you can enjoy ‘for the pleasure of it’, and is often regarded as the most well loved setting of the Requiem mass. The mass for the dead feels an appropriate choice of work for Halloween. The work will be performed by The Gallery Singers with soloists and accompanied by the organ. We will be taking the requiem back to its proverbial ‘roots’ and singing the 1893 version (Ed. John Rutter) , whose ambition was to bring the requiem closer to Fauré’s original intentions.
In addition to this work we will also be singing two motets which share the same text Ubi Caritas. The first beautiful, etherial setting by another french composer Maurice Duruflé, which will be followed by the contrasted by a more recent darker, minor setting by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo.
