This Halloween, The Gallery Singers present: Fauré’s Requiem
Fauré’s Requiem is one of those well known works that, in the composers own words, you can enjoy ‘for the pleasure of it’. It is often regarded as the most well loved setting of the Requiem mass. A mass for the dead feels an appropriate choice of work for Halloween.
The work will be performed by The Gallery Singers, accompanied by the organ and will feature two soloists. We will be taking the Requiem back to its proverbial ‘roots’ and singing the 1893 version, edited by John Rutter whose ambition it was to bring the Requiem closer to Fauré’s original intentions.
In addition to this work we will also be singing two motets which share the same text; Ubi Caritas. The first is a beautiful, etherial setting by another French composer, Maurice Duruflé. This will be followed by a contrasting, more recent and darker setting by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo.
Tickets are available online for six pounds – book now to avoid disappointment – http://www.wegottickets.com/event/243093 – or eight pounds on the door. As always, there will be a glass of wine and a tasty treat included in the ticket price!
